Artist’s bio

I hold an M.F.A. in painting and an M.S. in Educational Administration and have worked in a variety of media. I executed cast rubber, vinyl and mixed media sculptures, some on a large scale. These led to producing sculptural “environments”. I received funding from the University of Wisconsin to execute a series of performance pieces. I developed screen printing and drawing combination works and executed large canvasses in acrylic and oil. My use of mixed media incorporat ink, pencil, and oil pastels and oil sticks. I have also been working in pen and ink and watercolors. Two recent series are oil on canvas and a mixed media series of digitally manipulated prints.

As a professional artist, I have held positions in many capacities: exhibits designer and curator, free-lance commercial artist (graphic design, layout, TV ads), book jacket illustrator for major publishers, administrator of a graphic arts program and lecturer throughout the northeast. I taught studio and lecture classes in art and art history at the college level for many years. After moving south, I taught in the department of art at East Carolina University where I am currently Professor Emeritus in the department of interior design.

It was my fortune to have lived as part of the art community in the SOHO district of New York City for thirty years. The experience of interacting with many major contemporary artists, art historians, cartoonists, commercial artists, photographers and writers on a personal level was profoundly enriching.
